TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Florence Freedom extended a franchise-record scoreless streak to 27 consecutive innings on the way to a 4-0 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums Tuesday night at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, Mich.

Right-hander Liam Shanahan (3-4) went the first seven innings to earn the win. Right-hander Yosandy Ibanez worked a scoreless eighth inning and right-hander Cody Castle finished off the victory with a scoreless ninth. The Freedom have posted three consecutive shutout wins, including the first two games of their series with the Beach Bums.

First baseman Angel Molina provided all the offense Florence would need with a leadoff home run in the second inning off Traverse City starter Weston Curles. Molina’s blast, his 13th of the season, was the only run Curles (1-2) allowed in 6.2 innings.

The lead stayed at 1-0 until the top of the ninth when the Freedom added three runs off a pair of Beach Bums relievers. Garth McKinney drove in a run with a double which was his third hit of the game, and Kelly Hunt drove in two with his first triple of the season and only the second of his six-year career.

Traverse City mustered only six hits, two of which came off the bat of catcher Patrick Perry.

The Freedom (29-27) and Beach Bums (31-25) will conclude their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. EDT Wednesday night at Wuerfel Park. Florence is 3-2 in the first five games of the current six-game road trip, which ends with Wednesday’s game. The Freedom return home for a three-game series with the Midwest Sliders beginning at 7:05 p.m. EDT Thursday at Champion Window Field. Wednesday’s pitching match-up will feature Florence right-hander Andy Clark (4-1) against Traverse City ace right-hander David Nathanson (9-2).
