Freedom Run Win Streak to Four with 4-2 Win over Host Beach Bums
Record Scoreless Streak Ends at 28 2/3 Innings
The Florence Freedom ran their winning streak to a season-high four straight games with a 4-2 win over the host Traverse City Beach Bums Wednesday night at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, Mich. The Freedom saw their franchise record scoreless innings streak come to an end at 28 2/3 innings when Traverse City scored an unearned run with two outs in the second inning. The win completed a three-game sweep for the Freedom who are now just one game behind the Beach Bums for second place in the Frontier League's East Division. The Freedom offense supplied a run in the first and three in the second in support of rookie right-hander Andy Clark, who ran his record to 5-1 with 5 2/3 innings of four-hit baseball. Three relievers completed the five-hitter with closer Cody Castle picking up his 11th save in as many chances. Third baseman Kelly Hunt drove in three of the four Florence runs, including a clutch bases loaded single to drive in a pair with two outs in the second off Traverse City starter Peter McEneaney (1-1). Center fielder Garth McKinney collected a pair of hits, drove in a run, stole a base and scored two runs. Florence (30-27) returns home at 7:05 p.m. EDT Thursday for the first of a three-game series with the Midwest Sliders at Champion Window Field.
